Our Excursions in Odessa

1.  City Walk
 
This tour includes visiting the Vorontsov Palace (outside view), Colonnade, Shakh Palace, Potemkin Stairway (1837-1842, designed by F.Boffo, built in Classical style, 192 steps, 27 m high and 136,5 m long); the Tiger Cannon, Richelieu monument (1828, sculptor I. Martos); the Pushkin Monument (1889, sculptor Zh. Polonska); City Council; Opera and Ballet Theatre (1884-1887, designed by the Viennese architects H.Helmer and F.Felner. It was built in the Renaissance style with elements of Baroque and decorated with sculptural groups and masks. The interior was designed in the Late Rococo style. You will walk along Deribasovskaya St. (the main street of Odessa), City Garden (the oldest garden).
 The duration of excursion is 3 hours.

2. City drive

This tour includes visit of Primorskiy Boulevard (Potemkin Stairway,  the Cannon, the A.Richelieu monument; the Pushkin Monument; City Council; Opera and Ballet Theatre, Arcadia (modern rest area of Odessa), monument to Unknown sailor, French Boulevard (the area of rich people XIX century), Alley of Glory. This tour can also include one of the museums of Odessa ( Fine Art Museum (Palace of count Pototskiy); State Literature Museum, Archaeological Museum).
 The duration of excursion is 3 hours.

3. Belgorod-Dnestrovsky

Greek pilgrims from Miletus founded the ancient city of Tira, now known as Belgorod-Dnestrovsky, in the 4th century B. C. At the crossroads of a major east-west and north-south trade route, many historical influences were brought here during the centuries. Your Full-day excursion affords the opportunity for an in-depth exploration of this fascinating region.
      Your excursion begins with a drive through Odessa. As you head out of the city, you will see some of its major landmarks. Soon, you will be in the countryside, passing some of the rich farmland for which Ukraine is so well known. During your 90-minute trip, your guide will explain the region's rich history. Arriving in Belgorod-Dnestrovsky, your first stop is the town's medieval-style fortress. Moldavian and Ukrainian engineers built the walls in the first part of the 15th century to protect against impending invasion from the expanding Ottoman Empire. The ramparts, with a circumference of about a mile and a half, are remarkably well preserved. Leaving the fort, continue to the ancient site of Tira. Kimmeranian, Scythian, Sarmat and Cossack burial mounds have been found here along with ancient temples. Excavations continue to unearth the ancient time. You will enjoy the lunch in a local restaurant.

4. Odessa Catacombs

 Nerubaiske village.
Catacombs are underground labyrinths created during the period of the city construction over 200 years ago. They are situated mainly in Nerubaiske village (15 km from Odessa), originally created during mining of hardware materials as shell rock that were used to build the city. Currently it is the labyrinth with hundreds of entrances, exits, caves, and tunnels. Before the WWII labyrinths were the place for smugglers. During the WWII this place was a shelter for the partisans.

4. Literary Odessa

For the two hundred year's existence Odessa has found the richest literary history connected with names of A.Pushkin, N.Gogol, A.Ostrovskiy, V.Korolenko, I.Bunin, A.Kuprin, A.Mitskevich, Sholom-Aleyhem, V.Kataev and many, many other writers, poets. They have embodied on pages of the products bright instants of a history of city, its labor, cultural, literary life, traditions, customs, habits all that forms «local color ". This tour also include places were the famous poets and writers wrote their works.
 The duration of excursion is 3 hours.

5. Alexander Pushkin in Odessa

 The tour starts with a promenade along Primorsky Boulevard. Its beauty lies in the early 19th century buildings, the shady promenade, the park tumbling towards the sea & the sweep of the Potemkin Steps. The 192 steps, built between 1837 & 1841, descend from a statue of the Duc de Richelieu in a Roman Toga. At the eastern end a Pushkin statue, a British Tiger Gun, captured in 1854 during the Crimean campaign, and the pink-and-white colonnaded Odessa City Hall.  
From  Primorsky Boulevard a short walk takes you to Odessa Opera House designed in the 1880s by Viennese architects Felner & Gelmer in the Habsburg Baroque of the day, with a number of Italian Renaissance features. From Odessa Opera House your coach will bring you to the Pushkin Museum. This museum gives you the opportunity to see the unique drawings of Pushkin's time Odessa with Pushkin's signatures on it. Next visit of day is Cathedral Square with Cathedral which is reconstructing nowadays and which Pushkin used to visit and also governor’s office of Count Mikhail Vorontsov. Your coach makes its way to the port with en-route stop to view Palace of Count Mikhail Vorontsov, where the greatest poet of Russia spent 13 months of his exile in Odessa.

6. Temples of Odessa

 Odessa is the city of various religions. You will visit the 2 stored Saint Transfiguration Cathedral (the biggest cathedral of Odessa, built in 1824, destroyed in 1937 and rebuilt in 2001); St. Ilyinkiy Cathedral; Greek church of St. Trinity; Five-domed Uspensky Cathedral (built between 1855-1869, it features magnificent Russian and Byzantine-style facade), Men’s monastery. During excursion to you will learn about destruction and revival of numerous Odessa temples (residence of Patriarch, temple of Sat. Andrew, cemetery), histories of the Odessa relics, about creativity of modern icon painters.
The duration of excursion is 4,5 hours.

7. Palaces of Odessa

 For those with an interest in museums and fine buildings, this itinerary is perfect. Take a short drive to the city center where your excursion begins by visiting the Local Literature Museum housed in the former palace of wealthy Count Pototskiy (includes grotto). The museum's sumptuous 19th-century interiors and remarkable furnishings vie for attention with the exhibits of fine art. Our next stop is the ornate Gagarin Palace built for a noble Russian family, now a museum of literature. Tolstoy Palace is the residence of the Tolstoy (2 stored palace with 12 rooms) and art gallery (1896-1897). The palace was built in 1832 in a Russian classical style. Vorontsov Palace and Shakh Palace (its building started in 1800) can be observed outside.

9. Greek Odessa

 This tour includes walk along the Primorskiy Boulevard (Potemkin Steps, monument of Duke de Richelieu, City Council, monument of Pushkin (great Russian writer), Tiger Gun), State Archaeological museum (this building belonged to famous Greek governor of Odessa, George Marasli); Centre of Greek language and culture (Filiki Etairia). The Greek revolution of 1821 started from there.  
 The duration of excursion is 3 hours.

The price for the guide service at all the excursions is 20 USD per an hour.
